Case Study: West Orange Lumber
West Orange Lumber has been using Enterprise’s Professional Estimating system for nearly two years. They have used it to produce more than 800 takeoffs for their wide array of residential and commercial contractor
customers. At West Orange, Professional Estimating interfaces to their point-of sale software which is CSD® software from Activant®.

reference. Professional Estimating integrates with our CSD software so that when takeoffs are deposited into the system, pricing is automatic and always up-to-date.”

Prior to purchasing Enterprise’s Professional Estimating system, the sales team at West Orange Lumber did manual takeoffs for their customers. Of course, this was time-consuming and lacked both organization and centralization. Professional Estimating offered a way for West Orange to centralize estimating, with one estimator, and to present organized, professional estimates to customers and keep information from takeoffs in a database for easy reference.

Tom Smith is the estimator at West Orange. He does takeoffs now for a team of nine salesmen who used to spend a considerable amount of time doing their own takeoffs. Those salesmen now devote more time to customer service and sales. Tom says, “Professional Estimating definitely saves a lot of time. Getting estimates done quickly and accurately is a great sales tool. The professional presentation we are able to do really impresses customers” Tom loves the ease of measuring linear footage and area with the system, especially on roofs with pitched areas. He uses the integrated graphics digitizer with the system. Tom’s greatest appreciation, though, is for the level of organization the software brings to his work.

Blending Systems for Success, and Giving Salespeople More Time in Front of Customers
The Professional Estimating system integrates completely with the CSD software that runs at West Orange. The team at Enterprise has developed a successful interface with CSD, as it has for many other software systems.

Tom says, “The integration with our point-of-sale system is so important. It saves a lot of time in the pricing process. The takeoff is created in the Professional Estimating system with our item numbers/SKUs and the CSD system attaches the pricing. I never need to make updates to pricing in the Professional Estimating system because of this integration.”
